Pupils Undergo CPR Training as Part of Restart a Heart Day Pupils from across the school are today learning the importance of CPR as part of a Europe wide initiative. Cundall joined another 115 schools from across the county to take part in ‘Restart a Heart Day’ – a programme which provides pupils with life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. Pupils as young as five joined in the training which aims to teach members of the public how to help restart the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest. Instructors from The Yorkshire Ambulance Service taught nearly 340 children at the school how to perform CPR using an interactive DVD and practical instruction on inflatable manikins. Stuart Jackson, helped organise the event for the school. He said: “Events like this help raise awareness and equip our pupils with a real-life skill that could prevent someone dying.” The school benefited from the expertise of several staff from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service being on hand to help instruct pupils as to the best way to perform the life-saving skill. Across Europe around 350,000 people a year suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a medical environment, often in the home. Bystander CPR by non-medical persons increases survival by two to three times, however, today it is delivered in only one in five out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest cases. Estimates suggest that by increasing this rate we may save 100,000 lives in Europe per year. Ceramics Masterclass
Ceramics Masterclass Cundall welcomed a leading artist to hold a uniquely rural masterclass in ceramic art. We were delighted to welcome ceramic artist Jill Ford to the school to showcase a ceramics masterclass based on Highland cattle. Head of Art, Sarah Pearson, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Jill to Cundall. Our older pupils have previously visited her workshop and seen her in action, so it was a wonderful opportunity for the rest of our pupils to benefit from Jill’s expertise.” East Yorkshire based Jill, recently had her artwork on display at the Hepworth and has featured in a number of high profile ceramic exhibitions throughout the country. Sarah added: “We have a lot of rural families at our school and the children loved attempting to replicate the Highland cattle’s famous coat in clay.” “Thank you to Jill for coming into school and for hosting such a wonderful day of activities for our pupils.” The artwork will now be fired in the school’s kiln before the finishing touches are added.
