A spoonful of sugar makes the musical a success
Cundall Manor School pupils enjoyed a recent trip to see Mary Poppins at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. The critically acclaimed show was witnessed by a host of youngsters from the local leading independent school as ahead of a series of upcoming drama performances. Head of Drama, Liz Vile, organised the trip. She said: “The trip was a wonderful opportunity to see a classic performance that brings together all ages.” The multi-award winning musical is brought to Newcastle by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh The well-known story of the world’s favourite Nanny arriving on Cherry Tree Lane has been brought to the stage with incredible effects, toe-tapping choreography, and unforgettable songs. William, aged 11 from Easingwold, said: “The show was amazing. It was very humorous, loud and funny. Cundall Secure Thirsk Hockey Tournament Win
Pupils from Cundall Manor School are celebrating a great start to the hockey season after coming out on top in the Hambleton and Richmondshire local area tournament at Thirsk. The U14s beat tough competition from teams across the county including Thirsk, Northallerton, Queen Mary’s, Stokesley, Easingwold and Wensleydale. The round robin tournament, held at Thirsk School, provided the first real test of the season for many of the schools involved. Head of Girl’s Games, Louise Bessey, said: “The team showed great commitment to beat tough opposition. They played well throughout the tournament and held firm in the closing game to wrap up another win.” She added: “The team progressed throughout the SIX games without conceding a goal and captain Tilly Hall led from the front putting away her chances in front of goal.” “A huge well done to all the competitors who made the day such an enjoyable experience.” Cundall will be looking to maintain their winning start to the season with upcoming games against Yarm and Giggleswick and will progress to the County Cup at St Peter’s School in York where they will meet other district winners. The win comes hot on the heels of Cundall Manor School being nominated for the Independent Schools Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sport.
